Neighbor Project

Kauaʻi Digital Village

A distributed community network being built on North Shore Kauaʻi. MCT builds the infrastructure. The community owns it.

This is the larger project.

My Computer Therapy builds individual resilience. The Kauaʻi Digital Village builds collective infrastructure — a distributed network of locally-hosted services, community communication, and shared digital sovereignty rooted on the North Shore.

MCT is one node. Radio is another. The village is the whole thing.

What’s being built

Tune Into Tomorrow — Community radio, streaming 24/7. Not an algorithm, not a playlist service — a real station run from North Shore Kauaʻi with a community of listeners, dispatches, and signal.

Village Portal — A community hub with local weather, tide data, neighborhood news, and villager pages. Accessible on the local network, offline-capable.

Secure Local Network — A WireGuard-based mesh connecting village infrastructure across the island. Private. Encrypted. Ours.

Villager Homes — Each member of the village gets a presence on the network: a page, an email address, a slice of the shared infrastructure.

Community Services — Shared self-hosted tools: Nextcloud, calendar, collaborative documents — running on hardware we control.

The philosophy

The internet we have is not the internet we need.

Corporate platforms monetize attention. Cloud providers monetize data. Social networks monetize relationships. None of that infrastructure serves community. It extracts from it.

The Kauaʻi Digital Village is built on a different premise: community infrastructure should be owned by the community. Technology should increase resilience, not dependency. Data should stay where the people are.

This isn’t utopian. It’s practical. Hurricanes happen. Platforms collapse. ISPs throttle. Power goes out. Infrastructure you own keeps working. Infrastructure you rent from a platform in California might not.

Status

Being built. Active.

The radio station is live. The portal is operational. Villager onboarding is running. New infrastructure is added regularly.
